5 Tips to Save Money on Christmas Presents

Christmas Gift

Last year alone, almost 4 million people got into debt paying for Christmas expenses. Over 6 million people feared that they would not have enough money in order to be able to pay their bills because of Christmas gifts. You do NOT have to go into debt or even spend a lot of money to afford a nice Christmas. With some time and a little bit of planning, you can purchase Christmas gifts for your family and friends and still be able to pay your bills too. Here are some tips to help you out this season.

1. Shop Online
You can save quite a bit of money by shopping online. For instance, shop on “Cyber Monday”, the Monday after Thanksgiving. On this day, many online retailers feature deep discounts on toys and other items. Some retailers even offer free shipping and handling to encourage customers to shop at their site. Over the years, shopping online has become quite popular. Last year alone, over $20 billion dollars was spent purchasing gifts online.

2. Use Cash
If at all possible, use cash to purchase your Christmas gifts. Using cash can help you to stick with your budget and will also save you money in the long run. When you purchase gifts and other items using your credit card, you will be charged interest on the amount that you have charged. If it takes you a year to pay off your Christmas charges, then you will have incurred quite a bit of debt as a result. While it may not think that it will take that long to pay off your Christmas charges, consider that 3 million people are still paying off their debts from last Christmas at this time.

3. Shop Wisely
One good way to save money is by shopping the sales. In addition, you should look to see if there are any coupons available for items that you want to purchase. For example, some toy manufacturers offer printable coupons on their website. If you use a coupon to purchase an item that is on sale, you can maximize your savings. When purchasing items online, search for coupon codes to save additional money.

4. Work Smarter, Not Harder
It can be difficult to keep up with all the sales and to find the coupons that you need to maximize your savings. In order to make life a little bit easier and save time, consider subscribing to one of the many money-saving blogs available online. One such blog is Deal Seeking Mom at www.dealseekingmom.com. Here, you can find out about the latest sales and deals for the Holidays!

5. Change Your Perspective
Finally, consider changing how you view the Christmas season. Instead of feeling like you have to spend a lot of money in order to have a good Christmas, concentrate on making this holiday season a meaningful one by spending quality time with family and friends. Sometimes, the best things in life are free!

This isn’t necessarily a way to save money on your Christmas presents, but buying them throughout the year can soften the blow of having to pay that big chunk of money near the end of the year. Just make sure if you have little ones you have a remote location(like grandma and grandpa’s house) or a really good hiding place at your home. Great post!
