Save Money on Vacation

With gas prices going up and up and the economy showing no signs of improvement, sometimes a dream vacation may sound more like a fantasy if money is tight this year. However, there are numerous ways you can save money on your next vacation just by taking the proper steps and precautions beforehand in order for you to get the most bang for your buck.

Whether you’re planning to fly to a tropical island for a romantic getaway this summer, or if you’re hoping to book some time off so you and your household can have a fun family vacation, here are four easy ways you can make your dream vacation a reality this year:

Choose your destination wisely

Sure a vacation in Rome and Paris may sound lovely, but sometimes you could end up paying twice or even three times as much just by picking a touristy city to visit, especially during the summer. Spend some time researching on what it is you’re looking for in a vacation, and see if you can find an alternative city or even country to visit for your vacation.

If you’re unsure as to where you would like to go for your vacation, scout out deals on various airline company websites, as some companies may offer huge discounts for specific cities or countries which could help make the decision-making process a lot easier for you.

Use Cheapoair and Skyscanner

Cheapoair.com and Skyscanner.net are essentially database sites that will search through numerous different airline company websites to find the cheapest flights available. Depending on how far ahead you book your flight tickets, you could end up saving a ton of money just by purchasing your tickets on either of these sites, and you might even get a discount on your next purchase as well.

Pack light

Airline companies are notorious for dinging customers who are bringing more than one suitcase with them during their travels. If you plan on travelling for a short amount of time, there is really no point to bring more than one suitcase unless you’re willing to pay up to $30 USD for every piece of luggage you bring with you.

One way around this is to not only put extra thought and consideration into each and every item you pack, but to also check out the luggage costs for each airline company before you purchase your ticket. In order to do this, check out Luggagelimits.com to see the various luggage restrictions for each company, and choose the company that offers the best deals.

Research your accommodation

Even though hotels, flats and hostels tend to be pricier if they are located in a central area of town, you could end up saving a ton of money by choosing accommodation that is in a central location instead of accommodation that is far away from the city center. Sometimes you could end up paying $10 per person or more just to get to and from the city center each and every day, so factor this in to your budget before you make a final choice on accommodation.

Also, check out official websites for various hostels and hotels in the city you plan on visiting to, because some will offer perks like free breakfast, tea, coffee and internet, or even discounts to various tourist attractions as well.

I don’t ever check luggage when I travel. I pack just one carry on and stuff it well then buy some things when I get to my destination. I spent a week in Jamaica one year out of my carry on and it was fine.

That doesn’t work as well once you add kids to the equation!

planning ahead will save a lot, especially on restaurant deals and sometimes cars/hotels/airfare. On the flip side, you can also save a lot by waiting until the hotels are booking the last few rooms, but you run the risk of there not being anything available.
