Deal… Not So Much!

I have been getting my Shop It To Me sale emails for over a year now and although I do love them, there are often some, well… surprises! If you are not familiar with Shop it To Me, it is a site where you type in your brands, size, gender, and a percentage off that you are looking for and they will send you an email twice a week notifying you of items that fit the bill.

95% of the items are wonderful! Then there is that occasional “what the heck!” So, here is the first “Deal… Not so much” post!

Jersey Dress

DEAL – This Michael Kors Cowl back jersey dress from The Outnet is just gorgeous. Black jersey dress with a low cowl back. This dress has ruching at shoulders and through sides, a slash neck, a concealed zip fastening at side and is fully lined. It is 70% off right now, although since it retails for $1395 it is still going to cost you $418.50. A bit out of my price range, but a very nice dress. Silk Chiffon Mini Dress

NOT SO MUCH dress from the same site. That is a Temperly London mini dress and yes, those are shoulder cutouts, but don’t worry everybody would be far too enamored with the pearl and gold beads at the top to notice that your shoulders are hanging out. At least let’s hope so because a mini dress made of chiffon  that balloons out like a shower curtain… The wind is going to have a hay day with that one. It is cheaper than the black dress though. That beauty is on sale for $352.50 (from $1175).

DEAL: These J Brand Jeans from Barneys are on sale for $49 (from $198). They are 5 pocket tailored jeans with slight distressing at the hip, thigh, knee, and seat. They look good on the model and even have those hip distress lines that are supposed to make your hips appear smaller.

NOT SO MUCH: These pants are Calvin Klein and they are on White Calvin Klein Pantssale for $123.75 (from $495) at The Outnet. They have no shape (they even look horrible on the model) and even though they claim the pants have a “concealed silver zip fastening at the cuff” it is obvious that it exists in this picture. To make matters worse, the hem of the pants hit about three inches above the ankles. Too short to be pants, too long to be capri’s… they look like you are wearing high-waters.

DEAL: This cute dress from French Connection is called Midnight Forest and although I don’t think I could pull it off, I think it would look great on a teen or young twenty something. It is on sale for $30.99 (from $139).

NOT SO MUCH: If the sleeves of your dress are almost longer then the hem then you may want to give the dress a second thought. This dress is the Rhodeo Flower Dress and it is on sale at the same site as the dress above for only $43.99 (from $158). The print is hideous and what you can’t tell from the picture is it is actually low cut (the print you see on the top is the back of the dress – the neckline is where the ruching is). The site actually suggests that you wear this to work with a blazer so you are ready to “go out for drinks” after work! If you wore a blazer with this dress nobody would know you had anything on other than the blazer.

You make good points about the not so much deals…the clothes are hideous but yet still expensive!

Good comparisons! The Frech Connection dress is really cute! I definitely couldn’t wear it, but wish I could – lol!

Those are hilarious! I like that you’re pointing out some deals along with some not-so-much’s. A lot of bargain shopping is knowing the difference between good quality and what’s just a low price, and too many people purchase just based on the name or the price.

I can’t decide what my favorite “not” deal is – but I think that red “dress” is at the top, LOL!

I love going to the off-brand stores (that shall remain nameless) and find “deals.” THey may be knocked down somewhat, but some of the clothes go on sale for the price they are selling them for.

Yeah – it always surprises me what people will consider a “deal”
