Halloween is Coming! Costume Supercenter Review

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. When I was little my dad would take us and all the neighbor kids out to trick or treat. It was a blast! There were ten to fifteen of us each year and we would run and see who could get the most candy. It was a childhood dream.

I still like Halloween and I love the costumes. Costumes are great for kids year round. Most children love to dress up as a doctor, princess, favorite character, and more! With this in mind I decided to do a review of Halloween costumes at Costume Supercenter.

They do have quite a few boys Halloween costumes. My son choose the boys Super Why! costume. He loves that show (and has a little crush on “Wonder Red”). It is a fun show on PBS.

Shipping was great and the costume was well packaged. It fit my son well. The cape and mask are fun accessories that I was thrilled to get since most costumes sell the accessories separate nowadays.

The only problem with the costume (and it is a big one) is that it arrived with a few seams torn in the right arm. My son wore it around the house for just over an hour and when he took it off I noticed that the seam at the neck was also completely torn out, the seam at both arms were torn, and the seam at one leg was torn. I cut the hanging threads, but it is only postponing the inevitable.

Honestly I do not think that this costume will hold up in the wash. If I had purchased it at the store I would have returned it immediately.

Hopefully this is not the quality of all the costumes at Costume Supercenter. The service was great and the selection is tremendous.

Honestly I think it's just Halloween costumes these days, they aren't made with the quality they were when we were kids unless you go and make one yourself (or buy handmade)

We paid high prices for "top of the line" Darth Vader for my son one year and it was really just junk all the way around, the cape was frayed all over, the seams were popping apart right out of the package, and just blah.

That being said the year we went with a Disney theme and bought all our costumes at the Disney store the costumes were great and lasted through playtime wearing way past Halloween and into the next year when we donated them to a charity event still in good condition. Of course, shopping at the Disney store comes with a Disney price tag and that's not cheap at all.

Unfortunately that is probably true 🙁 I guess I am "spoiled" by the Disney store and higher quality costumes. I tend to buy them after Halloween each year to put in a "dress up" box so I don't think I've ever tried a full-price mass produced costume. Old Navy makes great children's costumes, so does whatever company Costco contracts with, and of course Disney!

I don't think I've ever paid more than $8 for a high quality costume. I wouldn't want to pay $25 for a low quality one!
