Healthy Living on a Budget

One of the best ways to keep your family and yourself healthy, is to make sure that the food you prepare is loaded with nature’s best stuff. However, most people get the impression that organic food isn’t exactly cheap. Well, using grocery coupons and scouring the web for online deals and promotional codes could solve that problem for you. Here is an interesting fact: 75% to 80% of your grocery bill could be shaved off if you used organic grocery coupons. Getting to cut down on a big part of your budget is always a great thing. In my case, I always welcome the opportunity to save more bucks so I can build up the savings I have in my EverBank online bank account. Imagine being able to have more of your money going towards more long term goals. Now if you can only eat healthy and also be able to keep your budget healthy at the same time!

To get you started on the healthy lifestyle, here are a few simple tips:

  1. Substitute potato chips with sweet potato chips that you bake to a crisp yourself. Search for a sweet potato chips recipe that’s simple to do.
  2. Instead of snacking on calorie, sugar and fat-laden chocolate cake for your crazy chocolate cravings, try melting a bar of dark chocolate (choose your size) in a double boiler or the microwave, add ¼ of a milk or white chocolate bar of the same size and add ¼ cup of non-fat cream. Then get a cup of strawberries, kiwi fruit, sliced melon, sliced apple or pineapple, or try mixing these and other fruits. Slather the fruit with the melted chocolate, and enjoy! You may also want to just dip the fruits in the chocolate. Cut down on the calories too by using a non-fat cream recipe. This treat can come across quite sinful, but yet healthy, thanks to the dark chocolate and the fruits.
  3. If you are dying for some salty treats (okay, a whole cupful of some salt-saturated stuff), scratch that thought to reach out for Doritos. Try having good ol’ peanuts, salted walnuts, or salted pistachios instead. Of course, nuts contain fat, but they are good for your brain and heart. You may also want to try Fava Beans, which are far better than empty-calorie Doritos.

Having and keeping a healthy lifestyle should be a top priority for everyone. Not just for moms and for single ladies, but also for the men in their lives. While a growing number of men are already conscious about what they eat, many often still depend on their wives and girlfriends to remind them to live healthy lifestyles. And so for those of us who’ve taken the reins on meal planning at home, we can rejoice in the fact that healthy treats now abound. And for the budget-conscious, it’s a welcome fact that grocery coupons are readily available and can even be obtained online. All you need to do is to print them out. You can check out coupon books or a site like Coupons.com
