Budget and Coupon Update 5/23 – 5/29

Total = $31.63

We bought enough last week to get us through two weeks so we just stocked up on a few extras this week.  We were planning on getting more produce, but none of it looked good.  No big deal because we have lots of vegetables, we still have a pound or so of strawberries, and we did pick up 3 lbs of bananas.

CVS = $0.18

Sierra Mist = FREE
2 Gillette Body Wash = FREE
Cookies = FREE
Children’s Ibuprofin = $0.18

I needed the Ibuprofin and Sierra Mist because my kiddo was sick. That’s one of the great reasons to play the CVS game; when you do need something you can just work it into your weekly deals! Tax was $0.18. I saved $3.98 using store sales, $4 using a CVS coupon, and $8.99 using ECB’s. I received an $8 and $1 ECB for future deals.

Costco = $31.45

3 Gallons Milk = $2.69 each
Cottage Cheese, 3 lb = $4.79
3 lb Bananas = $1.32
Stuffed Peppers, 2 dinners = $5.97
Tropicana Orange Juice (4) = $9.95

Tax was $1.56. I saved $10.48 compared to local grocery store prices.

Small shopping trips are great. I wish I could reign it in, but I think I'm addicted by now. How long does it take for the excitement to wear off and to realize you don't HAVE to buy every good deal out there even if it's something you use?

I feel like I should at least try to keep it small this week since I just spent a good amount of money on 42 pounds of cat litter at Costco.

Honestly, I bought a LOT for the first year of playing the drugstore game. I made constant trips to the women's shelter and I still have stock in my garage.

Now I only go when there are items I need. I sometimes throw in extras to make the deal work and those items are sent to charity, but if there is nothing that I need then I do not go.

So I guess it depends on your situation. I've always kept food in my kitchen and I never buy tons of coupons so to "stock" in there usually means 1-2 of the sale and doorbuster items (which I may end up using weeks later). I keep a 3 month supply of toothpaste/toothbrushes/shampoo/etc. If I am stocked to that level then I do not go for that item.

Each week I post a "new" scenario for both CVS and Walgreens. If you use those scenarios then you will walk out of the store with $0 ECB's or RR's to "roll" (but still have a low OOP, usually under $5). That's nice because you do not end up with things you do not need and you do not have to go back each week. That is how I shop Walgreens now. Sometimes I do that with CVS and sometimes I roll the ECB's since they last a whole month.

Oh, and how many cats do you have!? I do not have cats so I do not know how much liter they go through, but that sounds like a lot 🙂

I have a bunny and I'm guessing she and a cat wouldn't get along, LOL!

My excuse so far is that I just moved here at the end of March and I had to fill my pantry, fridge, and freezer. Yeah, I'm going to stick with that. 😉

I only have one cat and I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know how much litter my cat goes through. My parents took care of her before we moved here and they sent us off with an opened 40 pound bag of litter, which I think was mostly full. I guess that lasted about 2 months or so, but I'll write down the purchase date on this bag and see how long it lasts. It's so weird because I tried googling this after you asked me and I couldn't come up with anything.

Stocking up does take a little time. Getting all the deals is fun anyway 🙂

Don't worry, I have no clue how much litter my rabbit goes through either! I just buy a big bag when it is gone. And yeah my bunny is litter box trained, LOL. She is a smart bunny and super sweet!
