Marcal Small Steps makes recycled paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, tissues, etc). They recently sent me some of their products to try out and have agreed to send a box of products to a lucky reader as well! The picture on the left will be similar to what you receive.
First, let me say that my main concern with trying new recycled paper products is that I worry they will feel rough. I thought that the Marcal products were very comfortable to use. My family already uses all recycled or reusable paper/fabric products along with non toxic cleaners, but I had never tried the Marcal line of products until now. My favorite product weas the napkins. They are strong and come in a great package that ties shut so the napkins can be stored in it. I tend to rip the packaging so badly that the napkins just end up in a pile under my sink. This will not happen with the Marcal packaging. Recycled toilet paper is one of the best things you can do for the earth (we tend to use lots of it!) so I strongly recommend switching! They have a great calculator online that can show you how many trees you can save by switching to recycled.
Marcal is not a new product. The brand has been around (and recycling) since 1950! Their products are 100% recycled. The products can be found at KMart, Walgreens, and a variety of stores specific to an area so be sure to check out your grocery stores.
Now for the cost. There are some things that I am willing to pay more (sometimes a lot more) for, like my WAHM made natural soaps, organic produce, a good cheese, and recycled products. Being frugal is about getting what you want by cutting back on the things that are not as important to you (nobody said you had to be a miser to be frugal). The great thing about Marcal is that they really are not that expensive!
On the KMart.com site a roll of toilet paper 300 sheet toilet paper sells 48 for $26.50, 15 rolls of paper towels sells for $15.67. They also have a coupon out right now where you can get $1 off any product.

I'd love to try these products. I use reusable rags instead of paper towels. I use a Brita and non-disposable water bottles instead of buying disposable water bottles and I don't eat meat.

We make our life greener by regularly recycling everything possible. We also use CFLs, Energy Star appliances, and reusable shopping bags. We combine driving trips to save mileage — and turn things like lights off when not in use. *Thanks* for the giveaway!

I know that I could do more to help, but one of the things that I do is keep all of the catalogs, magazines, newspapers, and even junk mail that I receive in a tote. When the tote fills up, I walk it over to my son's school and empty it into the paper recycling bin.

There is no such thing as a "green" paper company. That is impossible – they destroy everything around them, whether they recycle or not. It is purely a marketing ploy. And insulting for them to claim to be "green".
Marcal recycles because it is cheaper to do so. So the way to sell an inferior product, but still make money, is to convince the consumer they are helping the environment by using their product. Even though that is a bold faced lie.
Marcal has contributed to massive air and water pollution, and continues to do so. But they are eco- friendly? That is tough for me to believe.
This is a plain and simple marketing ploy. They could care less about the environment, and all their actions show it. Anyone who buys into that message is a fool, and doing a disservice to those who really care about the environment, and our children. Take the time and look it up. The answer is to use less paper. Paper towels, napkins and facial tissues are all easily replaced. For toilet paper, buy a bidet. But don’t buy into Marcals false claim about them being “greenâ€. That is an out and out lie.
I am not going to delete that comment because it isn't spam, just an angry comment and everybody is entitled to their opinion. I do wish you had left it with your name rather than anonymously.
In many ways you are completely right. But you have missed the biggest point. There will always be people who use paper products.
This blog has covered unpaper towels, "mama" cloth, cloth diapers, cloth wipes, and family cloth (I have never covered a bidet, but I am absolutely open to a guest post on the subject so feel free to contact me). For a select group one or more of those options are exercised. That is WONDERFUL and always the best option.
When you need (and for those who just want) to use paper products then I believe it is better to go with a recycled product.
There is the ideal world and the worst possible scenario. The real world always falls somewhere in the middle. If you live condemning the people who do not live in your own ideal then you risk losing making those few converts that will make a difference.

We do everything we can for our environment- my kids help their Daddy recycle, and as we go for walks around our neighborhood we pick up litter. We recycle everything possible at home (and I have a tendency to put recyclables in my diaper bag if there is not a recycle container while we're out).
We use energy star appliances, CFL bulbs and try to conserve energy whenever possible.

Our family uses eco-friendly products whenever possible, CFL bulbs and ALWAYS re-usable totes when we go shopping. We also recycle every possible thing that we can & are also teaching our young daughter how important it is to respect Mother Earth & Mother Nature!
We've stopped buying paper towels and switching to our concentrated green cleaner and rags.
We recycle everything allowed, thanks for our city's large recyclable carts!
I'd love to utilize these products for BBQ's with friends/family where napkins are needed, tissues for my toddlers' noses and toilet paper. I'm on a quest for quality toilet paper that is recycled, low-cost, and feels good.

I collect the water while waiting for the shower to warm up, and then use it to water our plants. I've also discovered a neighborhood recycled resource center which collects just about anything that can be reused from both residents and corporations and distributes it free of charge.

I stopped using those Clorox wipes, and instead, keep a basket of microfiber rags under my sink. This way, the rags are just as convenient to hand.
I love the cloth towels instead of paper ones and try to always use cloth bags at the store.

To help the envionment, we recycle all we can…paper, plastic, glass, aluminum and batteries. I also only do full loads of laundry and wash in cold water as much as possible. Thanks!

We recycle all that we can, I share clothes outgrown by the kids, books/magazines read.
One of the things I do is recycle. We also have a low flow shower head to help save water and wash only full loads of clothes and dishes.
