Giveaway – Personal Capital intro to Finance

I am happy to start my blog giveaways back up and this first one is great!  The winner of this giveaway will receive a signed copy of Personal Capital by J.L.Eaton.  This book sells for $14.99 on Amazon.

The cover of this book looks a little dull, but don’t let that fool you!  This is one of the best financial books I have read in a long time.  It covers everything from taxes to investments, retirement accounts, real estate, and more.  It is the perfect book for somebody who is just starting to learn about finances.  It explains the basics really well.

In the intro Eaton points out that he wrote this book for those of you who have recently joined the professional workforce after finishing college and who are just starting out in their respective careers.  I completely agree, but I do think it is helpful for anybody who is a “beginner”.

My favorite quote from the book is:  If you are truly wealthy, you have the freedom to quit your job today and never work for income again.  If your earned income is what makes you believe that you are wealthy, then read the first sentence again.  I love that quote (and completely agree with it).  You can be wealthy and have a very small income if you know how to budget that income.

The book is split into five sections: Basic Economics, Debt, Taxes, The Basics of Real Estate, and Investments.  Each section has 4-6 chapters explaining the topics.  Even if you are proficient at one or more of the categories there is still a lot of information to learn.

I would like this book because I've read plenty of books on personal finance, but this one would give me some more advanced information on general economics, which I would love to learn more about.

I am a single mother of four daughters, and have realized that even as they grow up, the expenses keep hanging around. Fortunately, I see them often, but being on a limited income, budgeting is harder now that I'm single. Any tips I can find to help would be well used, and I am intrigued at the myriad methods you seem to be in the know about on how to save money and find good deals. Too much advertising out there is confusing and overwhelming. I'm in for all the help and knowledge I can find and will enjoy sharing your site with my blog readers and facebook friends!I want to see your creative resource!!!
