As I was wandering through my blog list a couple of days ago I happily stumbled upon Sonyaann’s blog A Mom, Money, and More. She had a post on how she saves money by not going to restaurants, but there was a twist – a creative, fun twist! Sonyaann agreed to send a guest post about her wonderful idea! This is what she sent:
I have to say that this is a huge honor to be asked to write a guest post for Little People Wealth! I feel that Heidi’s heart and goals are very much in line with what I’m trying to accomplish at A Mom, Money, and More. She is just a wee bit more tactful than I am at times! I just want to take care of my family by finding the best way to stretch a dollar.
One of the ways that we save money is by not going out to eat. And I also know how boring staying home for everyone is. So for Christmas one year, I bought my husband everything we would need for a Chinese restaurant. He was a chef for a few years so it actually was a good gift. This is something that I wouldn’t appreciate, it would be like buying me an iron but it worked for him. Anyways, the next year I bought him everything he would need for a Mexican restaurant. I bought a lot of stuff after Cinco de Mayo so it was cheap and I held it until Christmas. The plates were from the Dollar store and Mariachi band poster was from the Oriental Trading Company. The entire Mexican restaurant was under $50. I keep each “restaurant” in its own box and it stays in the laundry room until we are ready to “go out” to eat. So this present really served two purposes, I got my husband a gift that he enjoyed and we save a lot of money by not going out to eat. And let’s not forget that I get out of cooking for the evening!
What a wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing it Sonyaann!

WOW! Thank you so much for the post, I meant it when I said that it is a honor. Right about now I’m wishing that I had moved my husband’s huge shoes out of the picture. You know what they say about men with big feet, they track in more dirt!
Awesome post! I believe we need national coverage on this one since it is a terrific idea. And because I have become a huge SonyaAnn fan.
Hello SonyaAnn! AWESOME POST! I mean it when I say that I have been telling all of my pals about your great idea for a having a theme-based “night-in” for dinner. I love the whole mexican theme and the chinese theme is a great idea, since we are huge chinese food fans. Anyway, you did a great job and it was very enjoyable to read it! In these strange economic times, it is always a bonus to find new, exciting ways to make life (and dinner) a lot more enjoyable! 🙂
I’ve said it before, but it is true: Sonya Ann rocks! Great expose` on her cool restaurant-at- home idea. Love it!
Also, great to find your site via Ms. Sonya Ann.
Great guest post, Sonya Ann! I am thinking a lot of people will be hitting the after Cinco de Mayo sales to stock their own restaurant!
Helene, A.Marie, Jules, Frances- I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve such wonderful people in my life. With my whole heart, thank you!
Welcome to my site everybody, I am so glad I got to share SonyaAnn’s tip! I will definitely be doing it myself 🙂
