Most people think of weatherproofing as a winter thing, but it can also cause your summer bills to increase! Finding and fixing leaks in your home is easier than you would think. Here is how you can start:
First, if you know of a leak that bothered you this winter then now is the time to fix it! It is easy to notice large drafts in the winter and forget about them in the summer.
Check the seals on windows, doors, and vents. If you are unsure then get a stick of incense and hold it near the suspected draft. The smoke will tell you if there is a leak or not.
Weatherstripping can help seal the areas at the bottom of the door.
Spray foam can fill the small gaps around windows, doors, and behind your outlets.
Caulk should be used on gaps less than half an inch wide. Be careful to choose the right type of caulk!
There you have it, easy weatherproofing for the start of summer 🙂 Happy spring cleaning!
