Creating an Ebay Listing

Now that we have learned what you should sell on ebay, the fees for selling on ebay, and how to ship your packages, it is time to learn how to actually create your ebay listing!

There is one site that makes this a breeze!

STEP ONE: Go to and create an account. You may have to download the Mr. Poster – don’t get the paid one! The free one is just fine 🙂

STEP TWO: Click on “Listings” in the top bar and then “new listing”

STEP THREE: The first thing it will ask you is if it is for an Auction, Fixed Price, or Store item. Choose Auction.

STEP FOUR: The next section asks for the details. Here is where you want to make your title (use keywords), you will probably not need a subtitle – leave that blank. Next, choose your category (only choose one or your fees will be doubled). Then write your description. Auctiva allows you to use a WYSIWYG editor (what you see is what you get) so you do not need to use HTML. If you want to use HTML then you can switch to that. Finally you will need to choose your pictures. Auctiva allows you to add up to 24 pictures to your listing without paying extra fees.

  • To add your pictures to Auctiva click on “Images” and then “upload” and you can take them straight from your own computer. You can then add them to your listing.

STEP FIVE: Choose your starting price. It is best to start all auctions at $0.99! Then you can select a template! Auctiva has 100’s of templates that are free! It will fill in the information for you, just pick out what you want. You can make your own template to use if you are in to that sort of thing 🙂

STEP SIX: Decide if you want any “marketing tools”. You can probably skip this section – 99% of items will not need any of these 🙂

STEP SEVEN: Fill in the shipping details. You will have to fill in your own zip code and if you want to charge a flat rate (it will ask how much) or calculated (it will ask for the weight of the package) shipping rate.

STEP EIGHT: Fill in the Checkout option. Type in your paypal address and choose a return policy.

STEP NINE: Schedule your listing! You can pick the time and day that it starts (or you can start it right then). How to time and price your listing will be a future ebay post!

That’s it! Once you get the hang of it it will only take 5-10 minutes to do. You can even pre-fill out some of these sections and use them in all of your auctions. Auctiva does not charge for this service – you will save money on scheduling, multiple pictures, and the template! Head on over to Auctiva, create an account, and if you have any questions then come on back here!

Thanks so much for these tips! I had just been doing my listings through ebay and this sounds like it will streamline the process as well as save me some money 🙂
