Making Money on Ebay Part I

After much thought on what money making adventure series to start first I decided Ebay was the way to go. There was a lot of reader interest in how I turned $10 into $900+ in just one year (I didn’t reach the thousand mark which was a bit frustrating! I believe I ended up about $20 shy).

The first few weeks of the year are slow so I will go over the basics then. By the time garage sale season rolls around many of you should be able to “flip” items with ease.

This is going to be a series post. Feel free to leave comments with your ebay listings if you want suggestions. I will also try to post an exercise that you can work on with each post.

The series will consist of the following lessons:

What should you sell
Fees for selling on ebay and how to create an account
How to ship your packages
How to create a listing
How to take a good picture

How to time and price your listing

Here Comes The Stork website is a great resource for selling on ebay. There are tons of tips and helpful people and a section on hot auctions on things I’d never even imagine – but there is a link on my blog.

oh, and I’m also in KC- so I really enjoy your blog! Thanks!

I haven’t tried eBay yet but want to give it a go.

How many hours off work do you think it took you to make the almost $1000?

That sucks missing that mark by such a small amount

Hmm, I’m not sure how many hours that part took me 🙂 I made around $3000 total that year (the $980ish was just part of the “turn $10 into as much as you can” contest – the rest was my husbands half of that contest, things we already had around the house (the contest was only for “found/bought” items), and drop shipped items.

I was probably averaging 3-5 hours a week for all of my ebaying (the $3000). The garage sales were something that we would have been doing anyway – but I usually went once a week for a morning.

I have never sold anything on ebay, but have always wanted to give it a try. I feel more confident and comfortable doing so, after reading your post. Thank you!

I made $2000 my very first month of selling on ebay (things around my house) I easily became a power seller, selling things that I won or got free on the internet and went to a convention or two! I now have an ebay assistant that sells for me but occasionally I will list a thing or two (have had GREAT success selling junk mail and catalog coupons as well!) DONT BE AFRAID GO FOR IT!

Quite a beautiful website. I recently built mine and i was looking for some design ideas and you gave me a few. May i ask you whether you developed the website by youself?
