Mr. Rebates vs. Ebates

I had a very good question by Crystal at The Thrifty Mama… Why do I use Mr. Rebates instead of Ebates?

They are the same concept, different name. It all depends on what you are looking for!

NUMBER OF STORES & LOOK

Both have an amazing number of stores that you can visit. Personally, I like the look of Mr. Rebates more. I find the stores are easier to locate. I don’t like that Ebates has “sponsored links” that come up first in the categories.

REBATES

Usually Mr. Rebates beats Ebates in their cash back amount. Here is a look at a mix of stores (I tried to pick mama friendly places, or places I use a lot):

Vistaprint – 10% back at EB, 12% back at MR
BabiesRUs – nothing back at EB, 2% back at MR
BabyAge – 3% back at both
One Step Ahead – 6% back at both
Magazines – 26% back at EB, 30% back at MR
Snapfish – 10% back at EB, 12% back at MR
Yves (last deal) – 9% back at EB, 14% back at MR
Apple ITunes – 3% back at EB, 5% back at MR
Avon – 5% back at EB, 6% back at MR

Honestly, I haven’t found a store that I use that gives more % back at Ebates vs. Mr. Rebates. I’m sure they are there – just not one that I use often I guess.

SIGN UP BONUS & REFERRALS

Both offer $5 when you sign up. Mr. Rebates offers an additional $2.50 (for a total of $7.50) if you sign up using an email link (which is why I offered to email links out in my last deal and I always am willing to email out links – just ask!).

Ebates gives the referrer $5 as well. Mr. Rebates does NOT – they do not give any direct referral bonus. I think this is why Ebates is heard of more online compared to Mr. Rebates. Mr. Rebates does offer an extra 20% bonus when the person you refer gets a rebate so if the person you refer makes at least $25 in rebates then you will break even with Ebates.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I wanted to use one main site so my deals are easier to put together. I have accounts at Ebates and Upromise to comparison shop – but Mr. Rebates has “beat” them so far. I think referral bonuses are great, but I don’t want that to cloud my deal finding skills, LOL!

If you can keep up all the accounts and comparison shop then that is great, if you want a one-stop place then I believe Mr. Rebates is the way to go!
