Changing Insurance

I am going to start a new job soon and since we don’t want to put DS in daycare, DH is going to have to drop down to part time. It will be good overall – but we will definitely have to re-look at our finances. We started with insurance.

We are now using AAA and we get a pretty good auto rate. Our homeowners ins has skyrocketed though and the company drives me nuts. They recharge me for rental reimbursement every 6 months and they take off our AAA discount every renewal as well. It is a PITA when we have to call them and say the same thing every 6 months, then we have to send in signed notices, etc.

We got quotes from 6 companies and only one could beat AAA on the auto quote (Ameriprise) and that was only by $2 every 6 months. 5 of the companies beat them on the homeowners and the two best were All State (beat them by $400 a year) and Ameriprise (beat them by $273 a year).

Ameriprise had the best rate overall. We got an extra discount for them through Costco. We will be saving a total of $277 a year by switching to them, which amounts to $23 a month.
