Homemade Baby Cereal

I got this recipe off of Super Baby Foods by Ruth Yaron – I recommend it, it is a great book! Please see the book to see age recommendations and ways to personalize the cereal to your own needs.

1) Boil 1 cup of water
2) Slowly add 4 Tbs of Ground Oats, Millet, Barley, Rice, or a combo thereof.
3) Turn the heat down and allow the cereal to come to a porridge consistency while stirring occasionally.
4) Add 1-2 oz of fruit
5) Add 2 egg yolks OR 2 Tbs tofu
6) Add 2-3 Tbs Brewers yeast

Split into 4 storage bowls (1 to use that day, 3 to refridgerate). Once your child is older and eating more you can double the recipe.

I use the food cube method to store his baby food so I just pick out 2 cubes of fruit. I also use the food cube method to store egg yolk and tofu so I can do the same with that (pick out 2 cubes). You could feed the fruit separate, but I always add it as my son likes the cereal more with the fruit added.

You can grind the grains and store those so they are ready to go. I grind them and put them into small storage bottles so I can just pick out the mix I want.

Don’t give your baby the white of the egg. That is a common allergin.

This is my son’s breakfast along with 2-4 ounces water. He is still breastfeeding so he gets breastmilk as well.

I also wrote a post looking at the nutritional content of this cereal.
